Mesh Radio Traffic Privacy and Security
As most mesh networks are decentralized, we do not control or have a way to control how data is collected, stored, or used. To keep your information safe, use private encrypted channels when needed and configure your radios to only send out the data you are comfortable sharing.
A particular channel is only as secure as the encryption type, key generation method, and safeguarding of the key. Channel keys might accidentally be shared, skimmed off a smartphone, reverse engineered, or pulled off of a discarded or lost device. Anyone with a channel key can decrypt your traffic, including any past messages that were captured and stored.
tldr; Don't send bank account info, social security numbers, addresses, phone numbers, or anything else you wouldn't be willing to put on a bumper sticker. What is sent cannot be unsent.
