What is Amateur Radio?
Amateur radio, often called "ham radio", allows people to do more and join a great community. You can explore voice contacts, digital modes, building antennas, creating emergency and portable stations, cool radio experiments, and even talk across the globe.
If mesh radio has sparked your interest in radio communications, amateur radio offers more ways to learn and put those skills to use both for fun and for emergency situations.
Read ARRL’s introduction to ham radio to explore the hobby. For a path into operating, see ARRL’s guide to getting licensed and ask a local club about getting started.
